Re-Coating Lacquered Floors
A light abrade and fresh coat of lacquer that renews worn lacquered floors in Kingston without a full sand.
Renew your lacquered floor
Lacquer forms a tough, clear layer on top of the wood, protecting it from spills and wear. In time, walkways turn dull, fine scratches build up and the finish looks patchy. As long as the wear has not reached the bare wood, a re-coat restores the protection without sanding the floor back to timber.
How we re-coat
A thorough clean to remove dirt, grease and polish residue
A light abrade with fine abrasive to key the existing finish
Vacuuming and tack-cleaning to leave a dust-free surface
A fresh coat of hardwearing water-based lacquer in matt, satin or gloss
When re-coating works
It suits lacquered floors with dull patches and fine scratches. If the lacquer is peeling, the wood has gone grey or there are deep scratches and dents, the floor needs a full floor sanding first. Oiled floors need a re-oil instead. Not sure which finish you have? Our oil or lacquer guide can help.
Benefits of re-coating
Usually finished in a day
Low odour, water-based lacquers
Protects the wood and delays a full sand
Restores an even sheen across the room
Choosing your sheen
A re-coat is also a chance to change the sheen of your floor. Matt lacquers give a natural, almost raw-wood look that hides fine scratches well, satin gives a soft glow, and gloss gives a traditional polished shine. We bring samples so you can see the difference on your floor.
How often should you re-coat?
In most homes a re-coat every few years is enough; schools and offices may need one more often. The trick is to re-coat before the wood is exposed. We are happy to advise on a maintenance plan that suits your floor.
It is a popular choice between tenancies, when time is short. Most rooms are finished in a day and ready for light use within hours.

Questions about re-coating lacquered floors
Can you quote from photos?
Often, yes. Photos of the floor plus rough measurements let us give a guide price quickly. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.
How often should an oiled floor be re-oiled?
Most homes re-oil high-traffic rooms every 12–24 months. Bedrooms often last several years. Our maintenance guide helps you judge.
Can you refresh a scratched lacquered floor?
Yes, if the scratches are only in the lacquer. We screen the surface, clean it and apply a new coat of lacquer, restoring the sheen without a full sand.
Should I oil or lacquer my floor?
Hardwax oil gives a natural, matt look and can be refreshed in patches. Lacquer forms a tougher surface layer that copes well with spills and busy households. We recommend the right one at the survey — or read our guide to oil and lacquer.
How are your prices worked out?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.
What is a maintenance re-oil?
When wear is only in the finish, a deep clean and fresh coat can bring it back. It is quicker and cheaper than sanding and keeps the floor protected. See re-oiling.
What our customers say
Very good parquet restoration
“The parquet in our dining room had several loose blocks and lots of bitumen. The result is excellent. The job ran over by a day because of extra repairs, but they talked us through it and kept the price fair.”
Coombe
Decking looks much better
“The deck looks warm and rich again. We had to rebook once because of rain, which is understandable, and they were flexible about the new date. Would use again.”
Surbiton
Great with our dogs around
“With two dogs, we needed a tough finish. They recommended a hard-wearing lacquer and it has held up brilliantly so far.”
