Wood floor re-oiling in Kingston

Oiled floors are beautiful, natural and easy to repair - but the oil needs topping up. You will notice it first in hallways, kitchens and in front of the sofa, where the floor looks grey or dry. A maintenance re-oil restores the colour and protection in a day, with no sanding and very little disruption.

Our re-oiling process

  • A machine deep clean to remove dirt, grease and old polish

  • Buffing to prepare the surface for fresh oil

  • Spot treatment of light scratches and worn patches

  • A fresh coat of hardwax or maintenance oil, buffed in evenly

Is re-oiling right for my floor?

Re-oiling works on floors that were finished with oil or hardwax oil and still have an intact surface. If your floor is lacquered, re-coating is the equivalent maintenance treatment. Deep stains, dents or bare patches need a full sand and refinish. For more help deciding, read when to re-oil or re-coat.

After your re-oil

You can usually walk on the floor in socks after a few hours, put furniture back after 24 to 48 hours and lay rugs after about a week. Use a pH-neutral cleaner made for oiled floors and avoid steam mops. Our guide to caring for oiled floors has more tips.

How to tell it is time

  • Walkways look pale, grey or dry compared with the rest of the floor

  • Spills soak in instead of sitting on top

  • The floor marks and stains more easily

  • The finish looks uneven in different areas

A quick water drop test tells you a lot - if the water soaks in quickly, it is time to re-oil. Catching it early keeps the cost down and protects the timber underneath. High-traffic areas such as hallways and kitchens wear first.

Re-oiling is one of the most cost-effective things you can do for a wooden floor. Regular re-oiling keeps the timber protected and the floor looking fresh.

FAQ

Questions about re-oiling

All questions
How often should an oiled floor be re-oiled?

Most homes re-oil high-traffic rooms every 12–24 months. Bedrooms often last several years. Our maintenance guide helps you judge.

What cleaner should I use on my wooden floor?

Vacuum or sweep regularly and mop with a damp, well-wrung mop and a pH-neutral wood soap. Avoid steam mops and harsh cleaners. Read our care guide for a simple routine.

Are your oils and lacquers pet-friendly?

Yes. We use low-VOC oils and water-based lacquers that are safe for families and pets once cured. Keep pets off the floor for the first 24 hours, and trim claws to help the finish last.

Can you quote from photos?

Often, yes. Photos of the floor plus rough measurements let us give a guide price quickly. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.

What is a maintenance re-oil?

When wear is only in the finish, a deep clean and fresh coat can bring it back. It is quicker and cheaper than sanding and keeps the floor protected. See re-oiling.

How are your prices worked out?

Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.

Very good parquet restoration

“The parquet in our dining room had several loose blocks and lots of bitumen. The result is excellent. The job ran over by a day because of extra repairs, but they talked us through it and kept the price fair.”

Decking looks much better

“The deck looks warm and rich again. We had to rebook once because of rain, which is understandable, and they were flexible about the new date. Would use again.”

Great with our dogs around

“With two dogs, we needed a tough finish. They recommended a hard-wearing lacquer and it has held up brilliantly so far.”
