Parquet Floor Repairs
Specialist parquet repairs in Kingston: lifting blocks re-bonded, missing pieces replaced and patterns restored. We keep the original floor wherever we can.
Bringing damaged parquet back together
Parquet floors are built to last a century, but the bitumen or adhesive underneath does not. Damp, heating, past leaks and settlement all cause blocks to work loose, rattle underfoot or go missing altogether. The good news is that most parquet can be repaired rather than replaced.
How we repair parquet
Lifting loose and hollow blocks, cleaning off old adhesive and re-bonding them with a flexible modern adhesive
Sourcing matching reclaimed blocks for any that are missing or beyond repair
Restoring the original pattern and borders where they have been patched badly
Dealing with uneven or damaged subfloors before re-laying
Repairs that disappear
Aged oak, teak and merbau take on a deep colour that new blocks simply do not have. That is why we use reclaimed blocks wherever possible, matched by species, size and grain before they go down. After the repair, parquet floor sanding brings new and old blocks to one flat, even surface.
Signs your parquet needs attention
A hollow sound when you walk, blocks that rock or click, gaps opening along the pattern or a raised area near a radiator are all signs of failing adhesive. Repairing a few blocks now stops the problem spreading across the room. Read our parquet restoration guide for more on what causes blocks to lift.
Why we reuse original parquet
Original blocks are numbered or kept in order as they come up, so the pattern goes back exactly as it was. It keeps the floor authentic and means only truly broken blocks need replacing. If the subfloor is part of the problem, we level or repair it before any blocks go back down.

Questions about parquet floor repairs
Can you repair a water-damaged floor?
In many cases. Light marks often sand away, while badly swollen or stained boards are replaced and blended in. The floor must be fully dry first, so we may check moisture levels before starting.
Can old parquet be saved?
In nearly every case, yes. We re-glue loose blocks, replace missing ones with matched or reclaimed timber, then sand and finish the whole floor for an even, seamless look. Find out more about parquet floor repairs.
How should I prepare the room?
Empty the room where possible and take down curtains that reach the floor. If you need help with heavy pieces, let us know when booking. Our guide to preparing your home has more tips.
How are your prices worked out?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.
What about the black adhesive under old parquet?
Many older parquet floors were laid on bitumen adhesive. It does not stop us restoring the floor, but loose blocks need cleaning back and re-fixing with a compatible adhesive. We look at it at the survey and include it in the quote.
How do you sand parquet without damaging it?
Parquet runs in several directions, so we sand it in stages at different angles. A final pass with a fine-grit buffer removes swirl marks and leaves a flat, smooth surface.
What our customers say
Very good parquet restoration
“The parquet in our dining room had several loose blocks and lots of bitumen. The result is excellent. The job ran over by a day because of extra repairs, but they talked us through it and kept the price fair.”
Coombe
Decking looks much better
“The deck looks warm and rich again. We had to rebook once because of rain, which is understandable, and they were flexible about the new date. Would use again.”
Surbiton
Great with our dogs around
“With two dogs, we needed a tough finish. They recommended a hard-wearing lacquer and it has held up brilliantly so far.”
