Floorboards Repairs
Floorboard repairs in Kingston: damaged boards replaced, creaks fixed and old patches put right.
Floorboard repairs in Kingston
Old floorboards take a lot of punishment, from heavy furniture to decades of service work underneath. Split ends, rotten sections near radiators, short patched pieces and boards that bounce underfoot are all common. Our Kingston team repairs these problems properly, so the floor is sound and ready to restore.
Our floorboard repair work
Swapping damaged boards for reclaimed ones of the same width and thickness
Re-fixing loose boards to stop creaks and movement
Tidying old service cut-outs and short patched pieces
Supporting weak joists and noggins under bouncy areas
Finding the right timber
Floorboard widths and thicknesses vary from house to house, so off-the-shelf boards rarely fit. We use reclaimed boards wherever we can, cut and planed to suit, so the repair has the same age and grain as the rest of the floor. We then usually move on to a full floorboard restoration, sanding the floor back to fresh timber.
Gaps and draughts
Gaps between old boards are common and can be draughty. Our gap filling service uses pine slivers or resin filler to close them. Wooden floors expand and shrink through the year, so gap filling is excluded from our service guarantee - we will talk you through the options.
Fixing boards from above and below
Most movement comes from fixings that have lost their grip or joists that have dried out and moved. We re-fix boards with screws or ring-shank nails, counter-sunk and filled so they disappear after sanding. If a section feels springy, we lift a board to inspect the joists and strengthen them where necessary. The result is a floor that feels solid underfoot and stays quiet.
Why repairs come first
Sanding a floor with loose or damaged boards gives an uneven result and can make problems worse. Sorting the boards first means the sanding machines work on a flat, stable surface and the finish lasts longer. Planning a full restoration? Read our guide to restoring Victorian floorboards.

Questions about floorboards repairs
Will filled gaps stay closed?
Gap filling is excluded from our service guarantee. Wooden floors expand and shrink with the seasons and with movement in the building, which can open small cracks in the filler. We use the most suitable method for your floor to keep this to a minimum.
How do you stop a floor creaking?
Most creaks are caused by boards moving on their fixings. We re-secure boards with screws and fix any movement in the joists below. Read about why floors squeak.
Can old pine floorboards be restored?
Yes — original boards often hide beautiful timber under old paint and varnish. We punch down nails, replace split boards and sand back to fresh timber. Read our floorboard restoration guide for the full process.
What is the best way to fill floorboard gaps?
We fill narrow gaps with a resin and wood-dust mix that matches the boards. Larger gaps are best filled with tapered pine slivers, glued and planed flush. Our gap filling guide compares the two.
Can you quote from photos?
Often, yes. Photos of the floor plus rough measurements let us give a guide price quickly. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.
Will repairs stand out?
We match the species, width and age of your boards wherever possible. After sanding and finishing the whole area, repairs are very hard to spot. Learn more about wood floor repairs.
What our customers say
Very good parquet restoration
“The parquet in our dining room had several loose blocks and lots of bitumen. The result is excellent. The job ran over by a day because of extra repairs, but they talked us through it and kept the price fair.”
Coombe
Decking looks much better
“The deck looks warm and rich again. We had to rebook once because of rain, which is understandable, and they were flexible about the new date. Would use again.”
Surbiton
Great with our dogs around
“With two dogs, we needed a tough finish. They recommended a hard-wearing lacquer and it has held up brilliantly so far.”
